The nearby mountains of white pumice give Acquacalda and the surrounding area a special charm, especially due to the wonderful turquoise colour that filters down to the seabed.
Mining activities came to a halt some years ago, and today the former pumice quarries on the slopes of the mountain have become a unique corner of Lipari, where nature and post-industrial scenarios meet in a unique and charming combination.
The former quarries can be seen during an excursion at sea, or along the scenic trail that descends from the mountains to the sea, and they truly are a very impressive sight.
